Being the youngest in a big family, I had to learn to use my voice early on! I realised the terror of speaking in public when selected to speak at a girl guide conference as an 8-year-old Brownie.
Luckily it wasn't enough to put me off and I discovered that I loved acting and performance. After performing in many school plays, I worked in Repertory before studying at the New College of Speech and Drama (now Middlesex University Drama Faculty) on their comprehensive Theatre/Teaching course where I was able to specialise in Voice Teaching along with the Alexander Technique for Posture and Breathing.
After two years performing on the Edinburgh Fringe, I formed the Jura Festival Company with a group of players from New College. We toured the Inner Hebrides for 3 summers with the great musical group Ossian, achieving my aim to take Theatre to somewhere it had never been before. This involved setting up and performing in all sorts and sizes of venues and performing without microphones. It was a challenging and wonderful time with fantastic performers.
After my 4 year old nephew asked me to be a Witch at his birthday party, I became the first woman children’s entertainer on Equity's books. For the next 25 years I took over parties as the character the child really dreamed of having to their birthday tea; Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, (with my own amazing 3 children each being Jess the Cat!) and other characters from children’s literature. Over 8’s created their own show to perform to the parents at the end of 3 hours! Again, the setting was always unpredictable and presented many vocal challenges.
In 1980 I started the charity Hop, Skip & Jump, which, over 40 years, gave respite support to thousands of children with special needs and their families. Needing to constantly fundraise for it, I had to speak on many occasions, spontaneously or prepared.
I have worked for many years with the 'Seed Project', a Church of England innovation for Equity members to work within Worship, bringing the Gospel to life through Speech and Drama.

Where I Work
My sessions are on Zoom but with children 16 and under I prefer to see therm in the home environment
(travel charged at £10 / hour).
